This suicide risk assessment is one that I have the most experience with. Having this assessment on hand will help give me the confidence to know that I have not missed anything when I assess for suicide.

Clients who are unfamiliar or uncomfortable with feelings and words struggle to express themselves adequately and tend to verbally repeat the same emotions but become frustrated when those emotions do not adequately describe what they are feeling or block all feelings. Access to a list bigger than the emotions wheel may help clients better handle their feelings vocabulary.
I put the anger iceberg in the same box as the feelings words because I like to use it to help clients realize that there are parts of the emotion we can see. Still, we cannot see the more impactful parts that help us reveal what we are trying to hide, those emotions that make us more vulnerable and may be connected to personal narratives. |
You never know when you may need one or more of these emergency numbers, so keeping them accessible will help reduce the awkwardness of asking for a moment while you dig. I currently do not work in a practice where I see many of these types of clients, so I do not know any number besides the suicide hotline by heart.

Having a list of evidence-based counseling interventions and strategies at my fingertips will help me when working with resistant clients or guide me when conceptualizing cases. This will keep me from needing to pull out a device and research, and I can track which interventions and strategies work for different clients and which don’t.

I am currently in my addictions course. I believe that just like suicide assessment, having an assessment cheat sheet at hand will help make assessment easier and help me to remember to assess when doing intake with new clients. The odds of me working with clients who struggle with substance abuse are high, but my confidence in my ability is not there yet. Keeping a cheat sheet on hand will make the process easier until I get my bearings and become more aware of how to assess.
